After reflection upon Psalm 73 and 25
With reluctance we confess you to be God most high,
yet overwhelming circumstances seem higher to us-
for we cannot look beyond them with hope.
With reluctance we confess you to be a refuge for the weary,
yet our security seems like more of a stronghold-
for we cannot rest secure in the unseen.
With reluctance we confess you to be a good and upright God,
yet injustice makes us doubt-
for we cannot imagine that good is on the way.
You hear all of this, our Father,
and yet you still ask us to wait.
Often we are stuck
between knowledge of your sovereignty,
and grief which turns to despair.
Help us to trust beyond our current capacity,
to love beyond what seems reasonable,
to praise in the midst of pain,
to look to you alone for vindication.
You are God most high.
You are a refuge to the weary.
You are good and upright in all your ways.
Surely those who wait upon you will be blessed.
Surely they will not be ashamed.
And so we look to you and we wait.
Refine our reluctance,
and be glorified.
Amen.
